“I long for the LORD more than watchmen long for the dawn, yes, more than watchmen long for the dawn.” NLT
Psalm 130 is a psalm of ascent, meaning it was one of the 14 psalms sung by Hebrew pilgrims as they journeyed to Jerusalem for the important festivals including Passover, and the Feast of Tabernacles. As I painted, I repeated the words over and over, “I long for You more than watchmen long for the dawn.” Watchmen are extremely tired at their overnight post but they still must be alert and protect the city. Through this image, we see that the Lord gives us rest and peace and we long for it! No enemy has come in the night and now the watchmen are able to sleep. I too long for rest and peace in the Lord.
The Psalms Collection was inspired by seven psalms that I meditated on daily. I read and underlined them. I spoke the words out loud. Writing them down, I repeated phrases over and over that stuck with me. I listened to Ellie Holcomb’s album, All of My Days on repeat as I painted.
For Psalm 130, meditate on the longing your heart feels for the presence of the Lord in your life.
