“May your glory shine over all the earth.” Psalm 108:5 NLT
In Psalm 108 David starts with pure praise, showing his confidence in the Lord and his loving kindness. In verse 5 he writes, “Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth.” After verse 5, the psalm continues with David crying out to the Lord to help rescue His people. He is pleading with God to show his glory. This is my prayer for our modern world too. May His glory shine over our cities and communities, over our war-torn countries and weary people.
Verse 5 is the lynchpin between praise and request. It asks for the Lord to show up and shine in His creation. What a patient Father we have to listen to us!
The Psalms Collection was inspired by seven psalms that I meditated on daily. I read and underlined them. I spoke the words out loud. Writing them down, I repeated phrases over and over that stuck with me. I listened to Ellie Holcomb’s album, All of My Days on repeat as I painted.
For Psalm 108, meditate on cascading washes of white paint and the small details of the abstract water. Pray that His glory shines over all the earth!
